Berry Spots

The Situation
You arrive at your customer’s home and she shows you into the living room where there is a very obvious blue-purple smear in the middle of the floor. She tells you it’s from a bit of blueberry pie. She tried to carefully wipe it up, but the result was a terrible smear. She asks if you can help…

The Diagnosis
Since there is a wide variety of berries, berry spots can be a wide range of colors. Plus, the presence of the juices and sugars make this a complex spot to treat.

Let your customer know that you’ll do your very best to remove the spot. After treating the area, ask her if she’d like you to apply carpet protector before you leave. It will help prevent problems like this in the future.

The Solution:

Step 1: Apply Matrix Spot out undiluted. Tamp and blot the area with a spotting brush and spotting towel.

Step 2: Apply Matrix Release. Tamp and blot the area with a spotting brush and spotting towel.

Step 3: Rinse with water and repeat steps 1-2 if needed.

Step 4: Apply Matrix Target Tannin Stain Remover undiluted. Tamp and blot the area with a spotting brush and spotting towel.

Step 5: Rinse the area thoroughly with water.

Step 6: If there is still a bit of the spot remaining, use Matrix Advanced Stain Remover mixed at equal parts of Solution A and Solution B. Apply it to the spot and cover with plastic until the spot is gone.
Warning: Always test materials for colorfastness, follow label directions, and never mix products unless specified in the label directions. Each situation reacts differently and results may vary.
